Obituary for Stanley Robert Wales
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Stanley Robert Wales on August 14, 2019 after a brave fight against cancer.
He is survived by his wife Loretta, as well as their children and spouses; Dick (Cindy), Eldon (Juananne), Cina (Doug), Anita, Charlie (Sandra), Roxanne, Mavis (Lee), their 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
When this Saskatchewan born young man headed West and saw the Rocky Mountains he was smitten. He happily found work in Newgate. His love for playing guitar and dancing led him to the local music hall where he met Loretta, with whom he would share his life for the next 65 years. Stan’s guitar playing and singing provided many an evening of fun and laughter.
Stan loved nature and was a jack of all trades. As a young man he worked skidding logs with horses, falling trees, then later worked as a Catskinner, as a Sawyer and a Log scaler. He finished his career with the B.C. Ministry of Forests where he advocated for sustainable forestry practices and the protection of old growth forests. Controlled burns were ‘Torchy’s’ specialty.
Sports played a major role in Stan’s life. He enjoyed hunting and playing baseball in his younger years. He was involved in minor hockey and figure skating in support of his children. He joined the executive of Cranbrook Colts Jr. Hockey Club.
In retirement he loved to curl and took up playing golf. He was a Kootenay Ice season ticket holder from day one and loved the Blue Jays.
He will be missed.
Celebration of life will be held on September 28, 2019. Details will be announced on McPherson Funeral Service Website.
