Obituary of Richard Joseph D’Eon
D’EON, RICHARD JOSEPH – Sunday July 26th at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, at age 89, surrounded by family and knowing it was his time and there was nothing more to say, Richard « Dick » crossed over. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Born in West Pubnico, Nova Scotia to Jean and Marie « Adesse » (Jacquard) d’Eon, he was part of a French Acadien community he never really left. The last surviving sibling of six, he kept in touch with his brother Doug and sister Pauline to their end. N’Oncle Rich to many, he visited some, never often enough, but always chatting with them every few weeks. Pre-deceased by his wife, Dorothy (Weatherstone) who he met when stationed with the RCMP in Sarnia, this quickly become his second home and where he would live his life out with yet another deep connection. He joined the RCMP at an early age. He was a part of the marine division stationed in Halifax and Newfoundland, before being transferred to Sarnia, then Valleyfield Quebec where his children were born and back to Sarnia. He retired, but not for long, before joining the LCBO as a liquor license inspector. Dick never really showed his age. He enjoyed people of all ages, never stopping to ever think what age he was nor how he was supposed to think or speak or carry on. His humour was a natural part of him and constant in most every conversation. He had a real fondness for the SYC Coffee Club gang as well as his Hunting buddies. A loving father to Linda and Alan; grandfather « papa » to Christopher (Melissa) Whelan, Richard Whelan and Lauren Whelan (predeceased) and great-papa to Chloe Whelan. Uncle Dick to Anne (Terry) Warwick and Jim Weatherstone (predeceased) and Doris Bitz (Craig Bancroft). He loved us all, willing to help with anything we asked of him and forever supportive. He could fix or build anything feeling no need for instructions. He would selflessly spend as much time as he could with us and we him. Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Celebration of Life to continue at Sarnia Yacht Club immediately following. Private interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please feel to make a donation to Kidney Foundation or Cancer Care Society.
