BEGLEY- Melvin Charles
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mel Begley on July 30, 2019. Mel was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on July 26, 1925 reaching the age of 94- a long and full life.
He arrived in Trail in 1947 and began working for CM&S/Cominco Ltd. and retired with 38 years of service. Volunteering became second nature to him and he was very active in our community right up until his passing. He belonged to the Legion, Eagles and worked with the United Way. He was honoured, on behalf of the Queen, as a Serving Brother of the Order of St. John and that became his passion. You would see him administering his first-aid skills at many community events. He was also presented a Honourary Lifetime Membership with the Retirees Curling Club and never missed a shot from behind the glass or in front of the TV!
He is predeceased by his two wives; Pat and Donna. From he and Pat’s family he is leaving behind their children and grandchildren Terry & Marie (Ginger Steven & Jim Tales, Laura & Pat Price); Wendy & Rick Brown (Darren & Maggie, Nathan & Rilee, Patrick & Michelle); and from his family with Donna he leaves behind his step children and grandchildren Alvin & Karen Dixon (Mitchell, Hannah), Donita Dixon & Doug Finlay (Christopher & Tasha, Amanda), Brian Dixon (Kelsi, Jordan). He was also a great grandpa to Ireland, Noah, Sawyer, Sloan, Sailor, Carson, Hadley, Cali, Nevaeh and Zendaya.
A Celebration of Life and gathering of friends and family will be held at the Trail Legion on Friday, August 9th, 2019 at 11:00am.
