Mary’s Obituary
MacDONALD, Mary Josephine ~ Age 85, of Garland, Kings Co., passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Black Rock, Kings Co., on December 2, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Enoch L. and Ruth E. (Baltzer) Lutz. Mary had graduated from the Grace Maternity Nursing School, Halifax. She had nursed at St. Mary’s Hospital, Sherbrooke, Guysborough County, where she met her husband. Later returning to the Annapolis Valley, Mary had nursed at the Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, until retirement. She was a long-time and devoted member of Black Rock Baptist Church, where she was active with the Jolly Workers and W.M.S. Mary was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing cards as well as assisting at many community and church events. Surviving are sons, Bruce and Blair MacDonald, Garland; grandchildren, Sarah, Kate (Cody), Alex (Haley), Jeffrey, Shawn and Joy; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Joseph, Landon and Nathan; brother, Harold (the late Dorothy) Lutz, Garland; sisters, Janet (Arthur) Spinney, Berwick; Eileen (the late Bob) Shepherd, Black Rock; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Calvin A. MacDonald; granddaughter, Samantha. There will be no visitation. Memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Monday, August 19, in Black Rock Baptist Church, 1248 Russia Rd., Black Rock. Rev. Marie McCallum officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date in East Black Rock Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Black Rock Baptist Church.
