Marlene « Midge » Edna Johnston
June 6, 1939 – August 11, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene (Midge) Edna Johnston. She was born on June 6th, 1939 in London, Ontario to Irene (Smith) and James Watkin.
She is survived by husband of 48 years, Dr. Glenn, son Dr. Aaron and his two children, Pierre Jacob Gagnon and Oscar Daniel Johnston, daughter Lindsay (Geoff North) and their two children, Henry Allison North and Emmitt Linwood North.
Also survived by five brothers, William (Georgia), Robert (late Helen), Jack (Ellen), Gordon (Daniel) and Rick (late Mary), many nieces and nephews, and other relatives. Midge worked for both Federal and Provincial governments for several years, then in Glenn’s Chiropractic office, but her best years were when she worked with special needs children in the Education system.
During retirement, Midge volunteered with seniors, and with various other organizations. Midge was very involved in her church, volunteering on vestry, nursery, ways and means, and as a greeter/reader. She spent several years golfing, clogging and line dancing until rheumatoid arthritis slowed her down.
She loved to sing and was involved for several years in ladies barber shop, and also sang for weddings and church choirs. Her long-time favourite was Anne Murray, but also loved Abba, Blue Rodeo and Don Williams.
Midge was a member of the Capital Winter Club, and serving as President of « the business girls », as well as many other committees. Midge was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 40 years, serving in several capacities for various chapters.
Her sorority sisters had a special place in her heart. She was also Queen of her Red Hat chapter of the Red Hat Society.
