Marilyn M Strong
1932-2019
Marilyn M. Strong passed away at her home in Woodstock NB on
August 11, 2019. Marilyn was born on January 23, 1932 to Guy and
Helena Black in Bloomfield NB.
She taught school in a 1 room schoolhouse in Lindsay for 10
years before attending vocational school in Woodstock.
Upon graduating she went to work as personal assistant for
Harrison McCain at McCain Food in Florenceville where she spent 43
years before retiring.
Marilyn also started the Carleton County Sick Children Fund
which helped many sick and disabled children over the
years.
Marilyn’s dream of starting a Potato Museum in
Florenceville became a reality in 2004 when Potato World Opened and
she served as chairman of the Board until 2016.
Marilyn sat on several Boards and Committees over the years
and initiated company payroll deductions for the Cancer Society and it
is still active today.
Marilyn will be sadly missed and lovingly remember by
daughter, Juanita DeLong, son Thomas Strong (Jennifer), grandchildren,
Wade, Ryan, Justin DeLong(Heather), Julie Weeks, Kelly (Ben) Brown,
great grandchildren, Jordan, Alexandra, Hunter, Skylar, Cale and
Ryen.
Predeceased by parents, siblings, Glen, Harrison, Ronald
Black, Evelyn Lewis and Velma Kidney, son in law, Harold
DeLong.
Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral
Home & Crematorium 337 Lockhart Mill Road
Jacksonville NB on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from3 PM to 8 PM. Funeral
service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 2 PM from Saint
James United Church. Interment will be held in the Woodstock Rural
Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the
Potato World Museum, Bloomfield Cemetery, Parkinson Society, and
Multiple Sclerosis Society.
