Lucy’s Obituary
Lucy Hrab (Slyshak) long-time resident of the Hines Creek area, passed away on July 30, 2019 at the age of 98 years, at the Long-Term Care facility in Fairview Alberta.
Lucy was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with her family when she was a child of eleven, when they settled in the Hines Creek area. She met William Hrab and married him in 1940, and they settled on the farm near Hines Creek.
Lucy was a strong woman who loved to cook, garden and do crafts. She helped cater many a meal, making hundreds of cabbage rolls and perogies which she was famous for. She would put on a big meal if she knew anyone was coming over, “saying it’s not much”. Anyone who stopped in was always made something to eat. She made many quilts which she gifted to her children, and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband William, parents, Steve and Katherine, and her sister Mary.
She is survived by her sister Ann Horsman, Sons Orist (Olive), and Brian (Theresa), and Grandchildren, Kevin, Rosanne (Tim), Christopher (Jody), Daniel, Bridgette (Mike) and William. Also, her nine great grandchildren, Lauren, Kahlan, Hannah, Alexis, Mathew, Nathan, Lucas, Carter and Abby. Also, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial donations in her memory can be made to the End of Steel Museum in Hines Creek.
Prayer service will be held on Thursday August 8, at 7pm at the All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hines Creek.
The service to celebrate her life will be held from the All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hines Creek, on Friday August 9, 2019 at 10:30 am. Followed by food and fellowship at the Dave Shaw memorial complex.
