Obituary for Lewis Nafziger
NAFZIGER, Lewis-The family of Lewis Nafziger announces his peaceful passing at St. Mary’s General Hospital on August 7 2019, in his 88th year. Lewis was born in Brunner Ontario and spent most of his life in the Wellesley area. He is survived by his wife Idella (Jantzi) Nafziger, his children Brenda and Bernie Howorth, Lila and Mike Tusch, Roger and Sharon Nafziger, Stephen and Heather Nafziger, Grant and Juanita Nafziger, grandchildren Allison Yantzi (Andrew), Lauren Howorth (Lucas), Kevin Howorth and Leanne Howorth (Nick), Amie Weber (Alex), Melissa Kelterborn (Scott), Courtney Miller (Jonathan), Jaime Jacomen (Tom), Kristen Nafziger, Joshua Nafziger (Shannon), Jillian Nafziger (Dan), Thomas Nafziger (Alycia), Travis Nafziger and great-grandchildren Evelynn Yantzi, Loghan and Jaxon Weber, Bennett and Weston Kelterborn, Brinley and Scarlet Miller, Brandon and Olivia Nafziger, Mya, Molly, and Macy Jacomen, and Cameron and Everly Nafziger. Lewis was predeceased by his parents Reverend Samuel Nafziger and Emma (Erb) Nafziger, his siblings, Harvey and Laura (Erb) Nafziger, Edward and Theresa (Zmija) Nafziger, Ivan and Laurene (Roth) Nafziger, Mary and Robert Stoliker, his son (William) Dean Nafziger, grandson, Jonathan Lewis Howorth, and great-granddaughter Harper Ella Miller. Lewis and Idella were married at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church in 1953, then attended Maple View Mennonite Church, and were among the founding members of Wellesley Mennonite Church where they currently attend. After farming for many years, Lewis continued his education in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher. After earning his BA and Teaching Certificate he taught for approximately 20 years, most of those as an Industrial Arts teacher at Wilmot Senior Public School and is remembered fondly by many former students. He also served many years as Secretary/Treasurer of the Amish Mennonite Fire and Storm Aid Union. They enjoyed wintering in Sarasota, Florida and spending time in the summer, at Chesley Lake. Family and friends may call at Wellesley Mennonite Church 157 David Street, Wellesley on Thursday, August 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday, August 9 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00 am. Pastor Kara Carter officiating. Interment at Rush’s Cemetery will follow the service. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations are invited for Spinal Cord Injury Canada, or the Mennonite Central Committee.
