No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good-bye, you were gone before we knew it,
It is with a deep sense of shock and sadness that we announce the sudden passing at home, of John Robert Nicholson of Edmonton on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the age of 81. John will be remembered by his two sons: Johnny (Melody), Jeffrey (Kim) and his grandchildren: Natasha, Dustin, Kyle and Kennedy.
John built a life in Edmonton that included many close friends and a successful career as a Truck Driver. This included driving Semi trucks from coast to coast. Later on, he turned to driving Motor Coach for Diversified and then Red Arrow with countless trips to Fort McMurray until a massive stroke forced him into retirement.
John was an avid golfer and held a membership at Lancaster Park for many years. He also had a love for skiing, numerous road trips were taken to the mountains. John enjoyed watching sports on TV and was an avid Oiler/Eskimo’s fan.
John was fiercely independent and would not let his barriers get in his way. He was a strong supporter of his grandchildren and appreciated their uniqueness. John’s precious connection with each of them will always be treasured.
He will be missed by his two brothers, Lawrence (Helen), Tom (Lois) and many nieces, nephews and friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Sadie Nicholson, and his sister, Eileen Reid and his brother Bill Nicholson
A cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday August 28, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf & Curling Club. Interment of ashes in his father’s grave will follow at 2:00 PM at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Edmonton, Alberta.
