CURTIS, James Joseph, BA, AIIC
June 21, 1926 – August 21, 2019
Peacefully and in the hope of the Resurrection, James passed away with family by his side on August 21, 2019 at the Village of Wentworth Heights. James was a gentle and humble pillar of faith, family and country. Beloved husband of Stella for 66 years. Loving father of Vincent (Joanne), Catherine (the late Jonathan), Therese (Don), and Anne Marie (Dan). Proud grandfather of James, Timothy, Michelle, Bradley, and the late Mark, and awe-filled great-grandfather of 7 great-grandchildren. James was a veteran of WWII, and a retired claims manager for the former Travelers’, now Zurich Insurance Company of Canada. James was a member of the Grimsby Housing Co-operative of 1955-1956 and built our first family home in Grimsby in a project that launched the growth of the town of Grimsby, an initiative that has been memorialized with a museum exhibit entitled, “Sweat Equity”. James was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4917 (Our Lady of the Lake) in Grimsby, and a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5860 in Hamilton. Our sincere thanks to the many care givers and prayer warriors for their kind and compassionate support of James and his family. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (Between Mohawk and Fennell) on Monday August 26, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Prayer Vigil will be held at 2 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Annunciation of our Lord Catholic Church, 280 Limeridge Rd. W. on Tuesday August 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, please consider a donation to the Good Shepherd.
“Sixty-six years seems like a day, and my beloved has passed away.” – Forever Stella
