Obituary for
James Francis Altimas
Peacefully at the Montfort Hospital with Donna by his side on Sunday, August 4, 2019. Loving husband and best friend of Donna Downes. Beloved son of the late Frank and Anna Altimas. Will be missed by his sisters Ann, Sheila, Joni and brother William and nieces and nephews Christopher, Patrick, Katie, Lisa, Jason, Andrew, Joshua, James and Carol. Devoted son-in-law to Doreen Downes. Lovingly remembered by sisters-in-law Karen (Steve) and Sharon (Rick). Devoted and proud uncle to Meagan, Emma, Rachel, Trevor and Ashley. His cats, Percy and Jasper, will miss all his pats.
James had been a long-time member of the Rivermead Golf Club and also enjoyed cycling, downhill skiing, skating on the canal and watching university hockey and football. He was extremely proud to have completed three marathons, all under four hours. James practised real estate law for many years in Orleans and provided his clients with the utmost professional care. He was also a proud, attentive landlord. James loved to travel and enjoyed sharing many tales of places he had visited. He was passionate about learning and was very knowledgeable on many topics especially history, geography and geology.
James will be remembered as a caring and extremely generous person with a wonderful sense of humour. He was always positive and lived life to the fullest. James will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Special thanks for the exceptional care of Dr. George Chandy and Advanced Practice Nurse, Carolyn Doyle-Cox, both of the Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic of the Ottawa Heart Institute and James’ family physician, Dr. Nasim Bahramifarid.
At James’ request, there will be no visitation or service. In James’ memory, donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute – Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic (www.ottawaheart.ca) or PHA Canada (www.phacanada.ca) would be appreciated.
