Obituary for
Irene Loreto (Giallonardo)
Reunited with her beloved Frank, Irene Jean Giallonardo Loreto has been freed from the body that has betrayed her over these past few years. Predeceased by her parents Eugenio Giallonardo and Maria Ursini, brothers Lloyd and Henry; sisters-in-law Lillian Giallonardo and Nina Giustizia; brothers-in-law Albert Jordan, Paul Giustizia, Mario and Anthony Loreto, and daughter-in-law, Helen. Survived by her sister Mary Jordan; sisters-in-law Anna Loreto, Benoite Loreto and Sandra Antonello (Emilio). Irene was loved by many nieces and nephews. She was Zia or Nonna to so many.
Irene was responsible for giving life to her children: Frank Jr (Ruth), John (Joanne), Anthony (Christine), Maria Sheculski and husband Glenn who was as much a son to her as any of us, Paul (Leigh), and Lauri-Ann Neal (Derrick). She was Nonna to: Nora Loreto (Jesse) Evan Loreto-Lee (Rosa), Francesca Loreto, Micaela, John Jr.; Matthew (Kelly), Samantha (Dustin) Sarah Harvey (Jon); Anthony Sheculski (Ann), Matthew, and Nick (Christine); Ryan Loreto (Adrian) Julia Moulin (Marc) Emily Loreto, and Carly Didone: Michael Neal, Gianna, and Sophia. Bis-Nonna to: Della Greener, Riel Loreto, Ellis and Arlo Loreto-Lee, and Charlotte Harvey.
Born in Timmins, Irene studied to be a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital, Timmins, and began her life as a healer at an early age. At work, she demanded only as much as what she was prepared to give—100%. If something was to be done, perfection was expected and that carried over to her role as wife and mother. She set the bar high for herself and each of us.
Irene was the rock to which many clung for mentorship, guidance, mental and physical health, advice, support—in short, she was a true friend. She made deep friendships wherever she went. She will be missed by many who came to rely on her, or just enjoyed her company and her unfailing hospitality.
Guided by her faith as a Roman Catholic, she was devoted to Sacred Heart Church where she was involved in too many activities to count. Her faith was her rock, so she was able to tell us, days before her death, that she had no fear, no pain and no sadness—except for us.
Her newest friend Arlene, whom she met in the hospital told her, “I see Jesus in your face”. What better tribute than that? As you would tell us, Mom, “Go in peace”.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation; Timmins and District Hospital, Sacred Heart Church or The Timmins Concert Singers.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Irene
