Grace May (Wietersen) Gibb passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Saturday August 3, 2019 at the age of 89. Predeceased by her husband William George Gibb, her parents Adelia (Hillebrecht) and Leslie Wietersen; her mother and father-in-law Alice (Low) and Fraser Gibb; her brother Ralph Wietersen; brother and sister-in-law Bob and Marion (Anderson) Gibb; neice Joanne Wietersen; and grandson Adam Gibb Korschewitz.
She is survived by her children Catherine (Katie) Gibb and husband Ed Korschewitz, Waterloo, Jamie Gibb, Stratford, sister and brother-in-laws Marilyn and Jim Cakebread, Joyce Wietersen (Mitchell), Owen and Mary Gibb (Brighton); and her neices and nephews.
Grace was a member of Avondale United Church, Downie Community Club, and St. Pauls Womens’ Institute. After her family returned from Detroit, her youth was spent behind the counter at Wietersen’s Country Store. Before marrying Bill, she worked at CJCS Radio Station. She loved being a part of the farm, tossing bales with the best of them, cooking meals for the corn silo crew, mowing acres of lawn. Her real love though was for the people in her life, family, friends, neighbours. She always had cookies and tea ready for anyone who walked through the door.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, August 11, from 1-4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Avondale United Church, 194 Avondale Avenue, Stratford on Monday, August 12, at 11 a.m. Rev. Kathy Urbasik Hindley will officiate. Interment at Avondale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stratford General Hospital Bed Fund, Avondale United Church or Stratford Perth Community Foundation – Jean Aitcheson Nursing Scholarship Fund and may be made through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
