ALFORD, Gerry Lawrence
July 12, 1941 – August 2, 2019
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gerry Alford. We take great comfort in knowing that Gerry passed away peacefully with family at his bedside. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 47 years, Penny Alford (Slater); his children, Michael (Michelle), Suzanne (Jim) and Lisa (Sean); four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and endless friends. Gerry was born in Toronto, ON, but spent most of his life in Vancouver, BC, until he relocated to Halifax, NS, upon his retirement. Gerry was an incredibly hard working and loyal man. He worked for a GM dealership for the majority of his career, with decades spent as an award-winning Fleet Manger. After his retirement, Gerry became the neighborhood dog walker and was known as a true animal whisperer! Gerry was more than just a friend, he was a coach and a mentor, on and off the ice. Anyone who had the honor of meeting Gerry knows that he was truly a remarkable man with the most amazing stories. He had two characteristics that are hard to find; integrity and heart. Gerry will always be remembered for his hilarious and eclectic “Gerry-isms”. As an avid sports fan, Opening Day and the Stanley Cup playoffs won’t be the same without his commentary! We will miss his presence deeply and are all better for having known Gerry. We will carry him in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, between 4:00 pm and 10:00 pm at the Bedford Basin Yacht Club, located at 377 Shore Drive in Bedford, NS. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the SPCA in his honor.
