George Richard’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Chaffey announces his peaceful passing on August 21, 2019 in his 85th year with family surrounded at his side. Richard leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 57 years, Louise (Butler), his children John (Natalia), Carla (Dave), Brian (Michelle), Janice (Doug), grandchildren Megan and Joshua Bonnell and Rebecca and Andrew Myrden. Richard will also remain in the hearts of his brother Frank (Lorna) and sister Jane (Eugene), along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents Octavius and Pearl and brother Calvin. Born in Corner Brook, NL, Richard retired at 55 years old after working 38 years with the Newfoundland Telephone Company. Following his retirement, he worked part-time with Frontec for NORAD. Richard cherished his time spent with family at friends at his cabin in Boom Siding and travelling with Louise. He was a longstanding and dedicated member of the Shriners, the Masonic Order, the Kinsmen and the Telephone Pioneers of America. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff, nurses and doctors at the WMRH intensive care, stroke and palliative care units for their kind and compassionate care. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held at The Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Church, 25 Main Street on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 2:00pm with The Very Rev. Catherine Short officiating. Cremation to follow and interment will take place at Mount Patricia Cemetery on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 3:30pm. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Mazol Shriner Patient Travel Fund or the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation.
