Elizabeth « Betty » Frances Carter
1931-2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Elizabeth « Betty » Frances
Carter, 88, of Springhill, NS. Betty was predeceased by
her husband and soulmate of 59 years; Charles « Doug »
Carter.
Born and raised in Springhill, Betty was the daughter of the
late Florian and Alberta Schiefer. After Doug’s
passing, Betty moved to Dartmouth to be closer to her
family.
Betty was a housewife and stay at home mom until her children
were grown; she then entered a retail and business course. Following
the completion of her course, she worked in the industry for
approximately 20 years before moving back to Springhill, where she was
employed at the Life Saver Plant in Amherst for another 8 years. She
was an adherent of the St. Andrews-Wesley United Church, Springhill;
member of the Drama Group and the Springhill Senior Citizens; past
member of the Rotary Club and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was noted for her green thumb and gardening skills.
Betty is survived by her son Michael (Thelma) Carter and
daughter Laurie (Richard) Hawboldt; Lower Sackville.
Brothers: Doug (Sharon) Schiefer; Springhill and Lorne (Willena)
Schiefer; Parrsboro. Grandchildren: Steven
(Charlene) Carter, Andrew (Jamie) Carter, Gregory (Amanda) Hawboldt
and Lisa (Corey) Webster as well as her many great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and friends.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the
A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane
Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where a celebration of life will be
held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11 am, followed by burial in the
Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, with The Reverend Wayne McCarther
officiating. A time of tea and fellowship will be held at the funeral
home after the burial. In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be
no visitation.
Betty’s family would like to extend their thanks to
Betty’s extended family for making her feel like one of
their own. Also, a special thank you goes out to her many friends as
well as the staff at Parkland at the Lakes. You allowed her to live
her life to the fullest.
For those wishing to do so, donations in memory of Betty may
be made to the St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church or to the donor’s
choice.
