Don Kitzan
Sept 11/1948 – Aug 3/2019
Don was born to Steve and Lil (Drobot) Kitzan on Sept 11/1948 in Theodore, Saskatchewan. Don was the first child. He had 2 sisters (Shirley and Linda) and 2 brothers (Jerry and Darcy). He attended school to Grade 12, starting at Drobot school with Aunt Olga teaching – then ending in Buchanan High School learning under Roy Moojelski and Paul Popoff. During his high school years, Don entertained as a member of The Beatles, rode in cars down the railroad tracks and enjoyed life attending dances all around the countryside … usually resulting in a fistfight somewhere along the way. After tiring of working for Steve’s B/A, Don moved on to be a truck driver, working mostly for Wilson Construction. When truck driving turned out to be not so glamorous, Don moved to Ottawa and worked as a salesman at Canadian Tire. There, he met Olive. When his boss, Wally, moved out west to work in Real estate, he asked Don to join him in the real estate boom there. Don married Olive and moved to Regina to join forces with Wally. A few years later Olive returned to Ottawa and Don met Harriett. Real Estate proved not to be enough to entertain Don so Don, Harriett and Leonard started the Regina School of Music. In 1985, Don and Harriett moved to Palm Springs where they had previously enjoyed several winters. Prior to becoming a Real estate agent there, Don drove truck from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City until he became time-eligible to apply for his Real Estate licence. They lived, worked and played in several golf course communities there until Don returned to Canada (Red Deer) in 1995. In Red Deer, Don worked in Sales at several car dealerships. His favorite watering hole was Bo’s Bar and Grill, where he spent many evenings with his friends. Harriett had a daughter, Stella. Don and Shirley had no children. Jerry married Cynthia Chmarney and have 3 children – Deanna, Jenelle and Brett. Jenelle now has 2 children – Jack and Molly. Linda married Gil Meyers and have 3 children – Shea, Kirk and Kyla. Darcy married Mary Hagarty and has 2 step children – Paris and Bowie as well as one child – Elise. In his spare time, Don greatly enjoyed golf and travel. Cruiseships were his favorite mode of travel where he saw much of the world. Don was pre-deceased by his sister Shirley and his parents (Steve and Lil). The family would like to thank all doctors, nurses, friends and neighbors that helped Don along the way. His final days were made comfortable by the caring staff at the Red Deer Hospice.
