Dominic Francis Keating
September 29, 1937 – August 24, 2019
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Dominic Francis Keating on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at the Health Sciences Center, aged 81 years. Dominic is predeceased by his parents Anthony (1999) and Mary Ann (1939), step-mother Catherine (1992) his brother Anthony (2017), and by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Genevieve Keating (nee Smith) (2009). Dad loved rabbit hunting and would go every season for many years. He also would bring home a grouse or two, that sometimes accidentally would get caught in his snares. He loved the outdoors and walked everywhere he went. He was known for his amazing ability to play « the spoons » and often played in nightclubs with the bands. He would bring home many pairs of spoons from these places, and we wondered where we’d put them all! He also was known to belt out a decent tune when you’d catch him in a good mood. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and you knew a good joke was coming when you’d see the playful twinkle in his eyes. Dominic leaves to mourn his three children, Marie (Dave), Joe, and Mary Anne, two grandchildren, Joey Keating (Deanne) and Carla Maddigan (Chris) and one great-grandson, Joseph Keating. His brothers and sisters, Ron (Agnes), Bernard (Ann), Ned (Pat), Pat (Collette), Mary (Tom), Elizabeth, Isabelle, Angela (Kevin) as well as many nieces, nephews, many close friends. and his very special friend Louise Major. Thank you to all the workers from Bonaventure Manor who looked after Dad for the past 8 years, he became part of their family and was often affectionately called Santa Claus because of his long beard and the twinkle in his eyes. He was known for his fist pumps as his way of saying hello, he will be truly missed by the staff and residents. Thank you to the nurses and doctors on 4 South A at the Health Sciences for ensuring his stay was as comfortable as possible. Dominic will be resting at Cauls Funeral Home on Lemarchant Road on Tuesday from 12 noon- 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Cauls Chapel at 11a.m on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 with interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, Avondale.
