Obituary of Dianna Joyce Waffle
WAFFLE, Dianna Joyce
(née Kattler)
It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Dianna on Saturday, July 20, 2019. She was born January 8, 1951 in Regina, Saskatchewan, daughter to Hazel and Albert Kattler. Dianna will be forever remembered by her daughter, Adena Waffle and her grandchildren Kennedy and Parker of B.C.; sister Sandy (Jim) Carton of Alberta; sisters-in-law, Donna (Cliff) Alderton and Debbie (Doug) Fritz; as well as a large extended family including numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and chosen family.
While it is difficult to accurately capture the scope of her life, it was certainly one well-lived. As a Capricorn, mom always had strong convictions, was an organizer extraordinaire and fiercely independent. Without question, she was also a loving and caring friend, always willing to help.
With her dad in the RCAF, Dianna grew up watching Hazel and Albert build friendships and connections as they moved across the country during her childhood; a gift she developed readily. After experiencing cities from Greenwood, N.S. to Comox, B.C. the family settled back in Regina and it is there that Dianna built her amazing life.
A dedicated and diligent worker, Dianna started the first of her three long-term careers following graduation. The first part of her working life was spent in law firms, supporting the success and growth of local practices. From there, she went on to develop her own business as an insurance and investment advisor.
By far, Dianna’s most important and life-long career was spent raising her daughter Adena and building friendships and family relationships that knew no boundaries. With limitless love and care for those in her vast circle, no amount of time or distance could impact the closeness she shared with those she loved. Dianna personified the importance of the connection to community. Her passion for engaging people and organizing gatherings was next level. She was before her time…the most retro of social media platforms!
Vibrant and full of life, mom’s contributions and interests were far reaching. Her pals in the Usual Suspects, Book Club, ITT, and other groups were among the recipients of her dedication and meticulous organizational abilities. She knew how to work and play hard.
A supporter of Saskatchewan arts, culture and sport, Dianna actively participated on many boards including the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, Globe Theatre, Saskatchewan Children’s Hospital Foundation, and the Prairie Action Foundation among many others. A champion and proud Saskatchewan supporter, mom eagerly volunteered to assist with functions and events that promoted prairie pride. Proudly wearing Roughrider Green, she enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition known only to Rider fans.
While her personal interests and passions included reading, music, art, doling out hugs, and being the wing-woman to so many, the biggest change in Dianna’s life came with the birth of her grandchildren. Over the last 10 years, mom travelled frequently to Vancouver to spend time being a part of and watching Kennedy and Parker grow and experience life. Grandi ensured family traditions of the past were continued and that new traditions started. During a time of poor health, it was her grand babies that kept her going as she was driven to be an active part of their lives.
Mom will be so greatly missed. She leaves us with many lasting memories and a strong foundation for the building of many more. We love you.
A Celebration of Dianna’s Life will be held at the Conexus Arts Centre, 200 Lakeshore Drive, Regina, SK on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Dianna, a scholarship will be established in her name at Luther College High School. Donations may be made by mail to Luther College High School, 1500 Royal Street, Regina, SK, S4T 5A5 or online at www.luthercollege.edu/high-school/makeadonation.
