Demetre (Jim) Kavouris
Peacefully on August 6, 2019 in his 90th year, beloved husband of the late Liyeri (nee Fotopoulos).
Demetre was born in Lefki, Lakonia, Greece on August 8, 1928, the son of Vasilios and Demetra Kavouris. Like many immigrants, Demetre came to Canada with the dream of a better life. He met and married the love of his life Liyeri (Lillian) and was the owner of Lillian Shoe Repairs in Toronto up until his retirement.
Demetre is brother of Yiorgios (deceased), Maria (deceased), Petros (deceased), Panayioti (deceased), Yianni, Konstantinos (deceased), Anaryiros, and Olga. Demetre will be missed by his many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws and by the many nieces and nephews who will always remember and cherish the endless philosophical conversations with their uncle.
Our most heartfelt thanks to the Dr. Selby and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital for the respectful care provided to Demetre during his stay and upon his passing.
Visitation to take place on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Bernardo Funeral Home (2690 Dufferin Street, North York) from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (136 Sorauren Avenue, Toronto) at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery (2845 Bloor Street West, Toronto).
In lieu of flowers, the family will be appreciative of donations to The Hellenic Home for the Aged or The Canadian Cancer Society.
