Jeannette Claridge, age 82, passed away on August 8, 2019 at Nelson, BC. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Jeannette is survived by her husband of 62 years, Derek Claridge. Four children, J’Anne (Barry) Monteleone, William (Kimberly) Claridge, Elaine (Cam) Iwaasa, and Valerie (Matt) Burnett, 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, brother, Clifford (Joan) Glover and sister Jessie Glover.
A long-time resident of Nelson, BC, Jeannette was active in many volunteer activities including the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. She served faithfully in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Relief Society President, Primary President, Choir Director and Seminary teacher.
For many years she was known as the local Tupperware Lady. She had a passion for searching out her ancestors and family history and taught classes, sharing her expertise. She was the head of the Family History Library in Nelson for many years.
Jeannette loved to travel and enjoyed creating travel journals of her experiences. She enjoyed writing stories and poems and wrote a weekly family letter for most of her adult life. She saved every card she ever received and valued her family and friends. She also sent cards for every occasion, keeping in touch with friends and family across the world.
Thanks to her husband Derek, Jeannette embraced technology and was proficient using the computer and the internet. You could count on her to comment on every Facebook post.
She enjoyed gardening and was out picking flowers when she was struck by a catastrophic brain aneurysm in August 2014. While she has been incapacitated since then, she has been a joy to all who know her with her easy smile and gentle laugh. We wish to thank the many caregivers, nurses and doctors at Jubilee Manor for their kindness and attention to Jeannette over the years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 14m 2:30pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 222 Richards Street West.
