Obituary for
Carol Caverhill Coughtry (Cameron)
Peacefully on August 19, 2019 in City View Retirement Residence, at the age of 95. Born in Montreal, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Wynne Cameron. Survived by son Gary (Ellen), daughter Gayle McClelland (John), granddaughters Keiren McClelland, Jenna Vardy (Kris) and Lauren Coughtry, great grandchildren Julia and Kameron Vardy, brother Ross Cameron (Marion), cousins Margaret MacMillan and Janet King. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Col. Douglas C. Coughtry (Ret’d)
Carol was devoted to home, family and her many friends. In her leisure time she was a fan of several sports as a spectator, but was most involved in figure skating, and met her future husband Doug at a rink in Montreal. She was a Minto Folliette, an official for a time, and a volunteer at the Minto Skating Club where she met with friends weekly, working on various projects. Carol often remarked that she had a wonderful life, seeing and doing things she never expected to experience, one of the great highlights being meeting the Queen at a Buckingham Palace garden party.
The family wishes to thank the staff of both Chapel Hill and City View Residences for their dedicated care of Carol, and special cousin Margaret for her unwavering friendship and support to our mother through letters, calls, and visits over the years.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway), Ottawa, with reception to follow. Graveside prayers and burial for Carol and Doug in Cassburn Cemetery at about 3 p.m.
Donations in memory may be made to The Barbara Ann Scott Scholarship Fund at the Minto Skating Club (www.mintoskatingclub.com), or a charity of your choice. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family through the funeral home’s website.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Carol Caverhill
