BROWN, Helen Irene
After celebrating her 95th year of living her life with determination, strength and a whole lot of love, Helen Mason-Brown (née Hitchman) passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto on Monday, July 29th, 2019. We were so very fortunate to be there when she left us. Anxiously awaiting her was her dearest love and husband, Keith Mason (1959), and their son Gary (2015). Helen is also predeceased by husband William Brown (1979). Helen grew up in Toronto in the loving home of parents Ernest and Myrtle Hitchman (née Lambert) along with her sister Audrey Jenner (Warren). Helen will be missed every single day by son Peter Mason (Gladys), daughter Kris Braiden (Steven), grandchildren Keith Mason (Jamie), Shannon Bell (Brian), David Mason (Kristy), Ian Mason, Lee Braiden (Emily), as well as her great-grandchildren Ethan, Grayson, Ella, Kori and Nathan. She will also be missed by her nieces, extended family members Penny, Sandra, Carol, Stephanie, Christine, Wayne, Alicia, and dear friend Cyril. Helen was lucky enough to have been surrounded by good friends and neighbours during her lifetime. In her later years, their help with all things big and small meant a lot to her. Whether it was going shopping, having her hair done, the gift of a fairy garden, church calendars delivered, bins retrieved and put away, treats of marshmallow squares and rhubarb, or simply taking the time to chat…every gesture was truly appreciated. Helen loved many things while here on earth. In no particular order and to name a few: her family, friends, a good meal (including Sunday dinners), Trailsyde, animals, Canada, the Blue Jays, music, dancing, playing the piano, great quotes, Terry Fox, one liners and a darn good laugh. A memorial service in memory of Helen will be held on Saturday, August 17th, 2019 at Knox Presbyterian Church, 147 Simcoe St. N., Oshawa with reception to follow. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, the Humane Society of Durham Region, the Canadian Wildlife Federation or the SickKids Foundation.
