Bernard « Bernie »‘s Obituary
DOUCETTE, Bernard Fred “Bernie” – age 73, Tusket, Yarmouth Co., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born September 9, 1945 in Hubbard’s Point, he was a son of the late Alexandre “Potash” and Régina (Melanson) Doucette. Bernie worked at Cosmos Imperial Mills/Dominion Textiles until its closure, after which he worked with Schooner Fisheries in Wedgeport and enjoyed many years of work as part of the team at Wood’s Farm. Always one to keep busy, Bernie also did kiack fishing and vegetable gardening, but he will mostly be remembered as a strawberry farmer. A man of faith, he was a member of Saint Anne’s Parish. He is survived by his partner, Barb, as well as by his two sons, Rick Doucette, Moncton and Jason (Allison) Doucette, Halifax. Also surviving are his brothers, Alcide (Patsy) Doucette and Benjamin “Blint” (Marie) Doucette, both of Hubbard’s Point and a sister, Cora Frost (Joe Nickerson), Pubnico. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Linda (LeBlanc) Doucette, as well as by brothers and sisters, Leonard Doucette, Louise (Stanley) Bourque, Helen (Tony) Doucette and Rémi “Jarmine” (Phyllis) Doucette. Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Friday, with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 17th at 10:30 a.m. from Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Albéni d’Entremont officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Anne’s Church Building Fund or to the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund.
