Obituary of Arne Boye Hansen
After battling cancer for four years, Arne Boye Hansen of Vancouver passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital’s Palliative Care unit, surrounded by family and friends on July 28, 2019. He was born to Aase and Frede Hansen on May 2, 1951, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The family emigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in Ontario where Arne grew up and became a journalist before moving out west to British Columbia. He was active in Greenpeace, Western Canada Wilderness Committee, and numerous movements that aligned with his passion for Mother Earth.
Arne is survived by his son Gordon (Debbie); grandchildren Brittany and Kyle; brothers Allan (Laura), Steven (Deb); sisters Jane and Inge; nephews Nigel, Isaiah and Braden; niece Jessica, as well as extended family in Denmark. He also leaves behind numerous friends in many places, namely on the Sunshine Coast and in East Vancouver where he could often be seen near Grandview Park or at a local cafe on Commercial Dr.
A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at a private home on Oxford St. in Vancouver on Saturday, August 31, 2019. For location, please contact maret723@gmail.com.
