Alfred Jandl Life’s Journey
I was born on May 27, 1924 in Schoenbrunn, Kreis Zwittan, Sudetenland. My father (Johannes) was born in April 1885, my mother (Albine) was born on April 2, 1897. My parents had a small farm. They had 12 hectares of land. My father was an apprenticed Shoemaker. His name was Johannes. My mother Albine (nee: Schauer) had two brothers, Josef and Franz. My father had one sister. From 1930-1938, I went to Elementary School and after that to apprentice as a farmer. During my school time from age 10 years and up, I worked on the neighbours larger farm every morning before school and every evening after school. On February 6, 1942, I was recruited to the Military in Schlesien. At the end of March, I was placed in Russia .In October, I was immediately placed as a soldier in the vicinity of Stalingrad. On April 2, 1944, I was taken as a prisoner of war in the vicinity of Odessa. In May 1949, I was released and went to Gadebusch, Mecklenburg, where my parents in the meantime were living as refugees. I changed my career from a farmer to a electric welder. I worked for 1 1/2 years as a welder. On December 21, 1951, I married Eva Cautius. In August 1957, we immigrated to Canada together .We lived together with my brother-in-law Johannes Cautius (sponsor), sisters in law, Waltraut and Renate for the first two years. We purchased our first house in 1960 where we still reside. Our daughter, Mirjam, was born on December 27, 1961. I worked as a specialty door fabricator (1st revolving door in Toronto). The Lord blessed us abundantly.
Only by grace, not of ourselves.
