Lina Flath
1921 – 2019
Maria Lina Auguste Flath (nee Roehrs), 98, peacefully passed away Friday, August 23, 2019, at Meadowood Manor PCH, in Winnipeg, MB. Lina was born on February 5, 1921 in Einbeck, Germany. In 1941 Lina married Otto Doerries and together they had two children, Inge and Rolf. Otto passed away in 1950. Later mom married Oscar Flath in Sudbury, ON, in 1959, he passed away in 1992. Mom is survived by her loving daughter Inge (John), grandchildren Marian and Adam, her loving son Rolf (Rosemarie); sister-in-law Elisabeth, Elsie, Barbie & Vera; brother-in-law Harry and Bob and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany and was predeceased by her parents, husbands, sister and brothers. While in Germany Mom worked as a bookkeeper for the family business and a Red Cross nurse after Otto’s passing. In 1959, we immigrated to Sudbury, ON. Our adventure continued in 1962 when we moved to Radisson, SK, Dad returning to the land that he loved. Mom loved her gardening, baking and spiritual activities throughout her life. She never complained but always saw the brighter side of life. In 1977 Mom and Dad moved to Radisson to retire. Mom lived in Radisson until 2010, when due to health issues she came to live in Winnipeg, at the Meadowood Manor Seniors Independent Living complex and in 2015 she moved into the Meadowood Manor PCH. While there she continued with her spiritual life and enjoyed many of the daily activities. During her life Mom visited Inge & John and she was known and loved as Oma to her grandchildren Marian and Adam. She also travelled to MB & NWT to visit us and to AB, BC, ON, North Dakota, Florida and may trips to Germany and her sister Tante Hermine, affectionately know as Mimi, Hermine visited Mom in Canada on many occasions.
We would like to thank the staff of Meadowood Manor PCH for their loving care throughout her stay.
Cremation has taken place as per Mom’s wishes. A celebration of life will be held at Meadowood Manor Fellowship Hall on Sunday, September 1, 2019 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Interment to be at Radisson, SK Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the Meadowood Manor Foundation, 577 St. Anne’s Rd, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3G5
