YURKEWICH, Mike
With deep sadness the family of Mike Yurkewich announces his passing as he went gently ahead of us to be with our Heavenly Father on July 30th, 2019. He was born at home on a farm in Iron River, Alberta on November 26th, 1936. His parents (John and Eva Yurkewich) were immigrants from the Ukraine and had three sons (Nick, Mike & Alec) and five daughters (Mary, Anne, Helen, Julia & Lily). His family moved to the Rossington area, while he was a boy, to homestead on a farm, which he eventually ran until his retirement. He was a loving patriarch of five children, twelve grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He will always be remembered for his devout Christian beliefs, strong advice, sense of humour and hard-working attitude. Mike was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Yurkewich in 2014. He will be fondly remembered and forever missed by his children, Anna Marie Rasmussen (Alan), Evelyn L’Heureux, Donald Yurkewich (Teri), Karen Yurkewich (Tim Sullivan), Marleen Etherington (Jeff Barber); grandchildren Cam and Quinn Rasmussen, Chris Yurkewich, Adam Yurkewich, James Strieb (Larisa), Katherine Sullivan, Taya and Jarett Etherington; great-granddaughter Reggie Strieb. Mike’s life will be honoured at the Westlock Alliance Church on Friday, August 30th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow in the church basement. Interment to follow at Westlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery 10132 – 163 Street, Edmonton, AB at 3:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Westlock Healthcare Center for the care he received in his final weeks and Westlock Continuing Care for providing Mike with a loving and happy place to call home.
