Obituary for
Zisis Jack Vaphiadis
With sadness the family of Zisis Jack Vaphiadis announces that he passed away peacefully on Sunday June 30th, at the age of 87.
Born in Vogatsiko Kastoria Greece on September 9, 1931 he came to Canada in 1956. Zisis was a lover of dance and music, with an aptitude for any instrument he picked up. He was a member of the Greek military, a restaurateur (Bel Air and Ottawa Airport Restaurants), husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family truly won the lottery with Zisis, who was known for sharing his passion and love of life with all those he came in contact with.
Predeceased by his parents Constandino and Marianthi Vaphiadis, his brothers George and Demetrios, and his sisters Mathildi and Kalliroi.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years Jean and his three children Tina Vaphiadis, Kerry Lekas (John), and Dean Karakasis (Kathy).
Beloved grandfather to Anastasia Lekas, Alex Lekas (Deya), Joanne Lekas (Justin), Joanne Karakasis, Nicholas Ioannidis and Nafsica Kousouri.
Much loved Great-grandfather to Sofia Lekas, Jayce and Jenna Hayward, Victoria and John Moran-Lekas, and his many nieces and nephews in Canada and Greece.
Visitation for family and friends to take place at the Kimissis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church (1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa) from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday July 5th (Trisagion Prayer at 7:00 PM) and 10:00 AM-11:00 AM on Saturday July 6th.
Funeral service to be held on Saturday, July 6th at Kimissis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 AM followed by a reception at the Hellenic Meeting & Reception Centre. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery.
The family would like to thank his doctors and nurses in Section A and the AMA at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their care and compassion.
