Obituary for Susie Jones
Susie Ann Jones (nee Kicknosway) – Born October 29, 1936, on Walpole Island, Ontario. At rest on July 13, 2019 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She is survived by her children Jeffrey Jones, J. Susan Jones, Jan Jones, Jay Jones and Julie Jones. Grandchildren Fawn Kelly, Anthony Alexander, Jordan Jones, Andrea Stocker, Guy Bennett, Wesley Chaney, Taylor Jones, Dakota Jones and Madison Jones. Including great grandchildren Fallon Graves, Austin and Aaliyah Alexander, Garrett Bennett, Alexis Stocker, Guy Bennett, Angie Bennett and Darcelle Williams. Nephew Kevin Kicknosway and niece Lauren Anderson.Also survived by sister-in-law Lynne LaBranche. Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Vernon Henry Jones, son Jordan Ralph Jones, daughter Jean Mae Jones, brothers Leo and Leonard Kicknosway and her mother Ella Mae Kicknosway. Susie will be missed by her “adopted children,” friends and by all the colleagues she has worked with. After living and working in the U.S. most of her adult life, Susie retired and moved back to Walpole Island. As President of Shingwauk Education Trust and one of the founding members of the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association Susie will be missed for her diligent and determined efforts to advance the vision of Chief Shingwauk. Sharing her knowledge and experiences of the Residential School System was of the utmost importance to her. Susie has volunteered and contributed to many educational boards and committees within Walpole Island First Nation and Ontario. Contributions in her honour may be made to the Shingwauk Education Trust, 1550 Queen St. E., Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 2G3. The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 5 – 8 PM on Thursday, July 18. The funeral will be celebrated at the Walpole Island First Nation Sports Complex on Friday, July 19 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Highbanks Cemetery.
