W02 Robert John Wilson, born in Napier N.Z, on Jan 12, 1931 in an earthquake, died in Olds Hospital on July 24, 2019 after a tiresome struggle with Cancer treatment, many pills daily, and extreme fatique. He leaves his wife of 67 years, Dorothy M, three daughters; Sharon, Jennifer and Kimberly. He was pre-deseased by his son, John in 2010.
Bob was the youngest of four sons who moved to Auckland during WW2 with their parents. At an early age he took an avid interest in music. Learning to play the trupet in bands, in between enjoying the sea and swimming with his brothers. He migtated to Canada in 1951 and joined the RCAF becoming a Canadian citizen, henze becoming a life of consistant travel. In this he was joined by Dorothy, who also was in the ACAF and a new bride to him.Tthey married in Morin Heights, Quebec in 1952.
Their son John joined them as they began a life of varied posting. With three daughters along the way, they lived in France, England, Northern Ontario Isolation and many other postings while each child went to many schools before graduating. Bob was a Scoutmaster and Chiir leader, in the latter playing hymns in the Catholic Church on bases and then the Protestant side of the chapels, During this time he also taught music, played in dance bands and began to do well received oil paintings while finessing his job in radar sites. Always in isolation mode!
Upon retirement he trained as an LPN in a Veteran Hospital in Victoria, doing home care for Veterans. He purchased a wooded tangle of forest to clear and build on in Sooke BC.This became too mundance, so he sold out and he and Dorothy travelled as they were empty nesters. They lived in and enjoyed the permanent RV life for years before joining their two daughters on their farm near Olds. Here he took on many tasks such as farmers do and thrived on it! However, this is was not Bob’s passion. His passions were collecting classical literature; listening to classical music; teaching himself how to build structures such as tree houses; playing a penny whistle instead of a trumpet ; painting oil collections of nature scenes; electrican; gardener; cook and turning his hand into most anything. A Renaissence man, one who ignited fun and interest in his family life and was also kind, provocative, intelligent, a caring father and husband, who will be dreadfully missed. By the way Bob, that book you ordered about Beekeeping for Jen, came today, free of charge – sounds like you!
