Juanita Claire Spragg, wife of the late Walter Spragg, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 20th, 2019. Born at Dipper Harbour, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Maud (Thompson) Thomson.
Juanita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. At twenty years of age, she married Walter, a service member of the Canadian Armed Forces and began married life “overseas” in Newfoundland. They had three daughters and lived in five provinces before retiring to Dipper Harbour in 1968. Throughout the years, Juanita was an active member of the Fundy Seaside Baptist Church, the Gideons’ Auxiliary, the Women’s Institute, and the Women’s Missionary Society.
Predeceasing Juanita were her parents, husband, daughter Faith Ballinger, sons-in-law Bruce Ballinger and Rolland Harding, brother Leigh Thomson, sisters Norine Thomson and Alma Rideout, brothers-in-law Clifford Jones and Murray MacDougall, and sister-in-law Bessie Thomson.
Juanita is survived by her daughters Anne Harding and Sylvia Dell’Olio of Dipper Harbour, brother Stanley Thomson, sisters Sylvia Jones and Merle MacDougall, brother-in-law Melvin Rideout, grandchildren Leigh (Marti), Elizabeth (Jon), Benjamin (Marji), Jadon (Krista), Juanita (Tom), Danielle, and Marcus, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home (230 Westmorland Rd, Saint John), with visitations being held on Thursday, July 25th, at 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 26th, followed by interment at the Thomson Burying Ground in Dipper Harbour. Donations in Juanita’s memory may be made to the Gideons, Fundy Seaside Baptist Church, Camp Evangeline (PO Box 1291, Truro, NS B2N 5H2) or a memorial of the donor’s choice.
