Gerald “Wylie McMullen 1942 2019

Obituary of Gerald “Wylie” McMullen
Wylie McMullen, born December 24, 1942, died on July 14, 2019, at home with his wife and sons at his side.
Wylie was born in 1942 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, the only child of Gerald and Helen McMullen. He attended Mount Allison University and Nova Scotia Technical College (now DalTech), and graduated as an industrial engineer, the first in his family to complete a degree. In the same week in 1970, he received two rings: his engineering ring and his wedding ring. He never removed them.
Soon after graduating, Wylie joined Lockwood Windows, a small company in Scoudouc, New Brunswick. Over the next 25 years he helped Lockwood grow internationally. He was liked and respected in the back office and on the plant floor, and focused on the lives of Lockwood’s employees as much as turning a profit. After leaving Lockwood, he served on the boards of Mount Allison University, the New Brunswick Investment Management Corporation, and Atlantic Industries.
An obituary could list his many professional achievements, but what mattered most to Wylie were his family and friends. Wylie always had time to spend with his wife and sons. His quick wit, charm, kindness, and integrity made him friends everywhere he went.
Among the many people dear to him, a few deserve special mention:
– His wife of 49 years, Kathleen McMullen, who was his best friend, closest companion, and the love of his life.
– His sons Greg McMullen, of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Peter McMullen, of Calgary, Alberta, who have built successful careers, families, and friendships of their own, and who made him incredibly proud.
– His granddaughter Julia (daughter of Peter), whose smile filled him with joy, and Peter’s wife, Florence, who he loved like a daughter.
– Peter Mesheau, who became like a brother over many years working together and supporting each other.
– Mike Wilson, who was close as colleague, neighbor, and friend.
– His extended family in Nova Scotia, and his wife’s brothers and sisters, who say he was a big brother to them.
– His many friends and colleagues from business, across Canada and around the world.
– His golf partners, who provided hours of companionship on the course.
Wylie lived a full and happy life, made happier by the many people he cared for. He wanted to say goodbye to each of them personally, but reminds us all that there is never enough time.
There will be no funeral, by his request. If you wish to commemorate his life, you can do so with a donation in his memory to:
– Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation;
– Oncology Clinic at Moncton Hospital c/o Moncton Hospital Foundation; or
– A charity of your choice.
