To those blessed enough to have crossed her path in life, Lynn, as she was commonly known to everyone, had the kind of laugh that would instantly jostle the hostility out of the crankiest grump in the room! Whether you spoke to her for a minute or you knew her for all your life, she left an unforgettable impression. Never a ho-hum type of woman, Lynn did everything with 100% commitment. Whether it was fishing, gardening, cooking, providing guidance and shelter to those in need (both people and stray animals) or simply at home reading a good book, she was always all in and those closest to her knew they had an unwavering friend regardless of time or miles. She never held a grudge (even when she should have), never met a stranger and took pride in making each place in which she lived a real home. Born to Olvielda and Beatrice Fortier (nee Kennedy), in Cornwall on April 9, 1950, Lynn shared life with 7 siblings; Carol Lalonde (the late Michael Lucas), Michael Fortier (Carmen), John Bill Fortier (Sharon), Deborah Belmore (Allan), Melodie Coulas (Dave), Todd Fortier and the late Suzanne Fortier. She was first married to Hank Compeau, with whom she had 2 daughters, Kelly Compeau and Shelly Hoffmeyer (Tom). Although over a long-distance (Shelly and her family live in Michigan, USA), she doted lovingly on her 2 grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Hoffmeyer. Equally close to her heart was the long-standing relationship she shared with John Rhyndress, her devoted partner of over 30 years. Lynn is survived by her daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren, surviving siblings, many nieces and nephews and her beloved John. In keeping with Lynn’s natural compassion for others, her legacy of kindness continues through her donation to The Trillium Gift of Life Network, offering the gift of sight for 2 people who, without Lynn’s donation, would not be able to see the world around them. To be a part of her continuing legacy, you may contribute, in her honour, to The Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes of Canada or OSPCA of SD & G.
