Obituary of Don McCallum
McCALLUM, Donald Richard peacefully with family by his side at Chapman House Residential Hospice, Owen Sound on Wednesday, July 10, 2019. Don McCallum of Wiarton in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Susan (nee Tyson). Cherished father of Bjorn (Oxana) and Dane (Carrie), all of Kitchener. Much loved grandfather of Rylee and Blake. Dear brother of Jeanette McCallum and uncle of Linda Serre and Susan Rundle all of Wasaga Beach. Predeceased by his parents Florence (nee Church) and Gibson McCallum. Don was raised in Mount Forest. He served in the Canadian Army (Royal Canadian Engineers) for three years. After graduating from Carleton University, Don taught History at the Bruce Peninsula District School in Lion’s Head. He retired in 1999 and enjoyed 20 years of collecting and painting soldiers, designing dioramas, setting up Remembrance Day displays in the library and downtown stores and model railroading. Don had a lot of visitors to his Lionel train set up in the barn and always made them do a history quiz of the layout. Don was a very creative person who always had a project on the go. He will be greatly missed. The funeral service will be conducted from the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton on Saturday, July 27th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Ed Laksmanis officiating. Interment Bayview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of remembrance to Bruce Peninsula Hospice or Chapman House Residential Hospice would be appreciated.
