Barrington Berry of Virden, Manitoba and formerly of Cromer, Manitoba passed away at WestMan Nursing Home, Virden Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the age of 92 years. Barrington had been a resident of WestMan Nursing Home for the past 3 years.
To all of us who knew him, Barrington will always be remembered for the love and dedication he held for his family.
Left to mourn his passing are: sisters Ruby Kaasgaard (of Souris), Louise Croft (of Wetaskiwin), sister-in-law Janet Berry (of Winnipeg, recently deceased), 27 nieces and nephews whom he would be simply known to us and « Uncle B » and many extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Fanny Berry, brothers Albert and wife Eileen, Robert and wife Roberta, sisters Joyce and husband Stu Fitzpatrick, Leone and husband Bill Lane, brothers-in-law Kris Kaasgaard and Al Croft.
Barrington was born June 21, 1926 at Cromer, one of seven children born to Lawrence and Fanny Berry. He spent the next 84 years living and working on the same farm that he was born and raised on. He retired to Virden in 2010. Barrington received his education at Cromer and Ebor schools to Grade 11. He had a strong work ethic, and loved being on the tractor. Grain and cattle farming were also his passions. He even specialized in raising Purebred Hereford Cattle, showing them at Brandon Winter Fairs.
He enjoyed curling, playing hockey and softball while growing up. He took up golf in his later years, enjoying this into his 80’s. He donated a parcel of his land in Cromer so that he and his community could enjoy local golf at Cromer Golf Course. He also curled regularly in his later years at Reston and Virden Curling Clubs. Barrington also enjoyed travelling, spending time in Australia, New Zealand, and Alaskan Cruise and several winters in California with his Mom.
Barrington was a soft-spoken, easy-going, physically and spiritually strong man. He had a strong faith in God and was a long-time member of Cromer United Church. He also had a dedicated service to his community, as a member of Cromer School Board and Community Club and was a member of the Orange Lodge.
« Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. »
A public graveside service will be held at Virden Cemetery Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at Virden Legion Hall.
