Hugh Arthur « Hughie »
Breen – 84, Truro,
passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, July 21, 2019, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a
son of the late John and Gladys (Chapman) Breen.
At age 14, Hughie began working at various construction jobs;
at age 17, he enlisted with Royal Canadian Army and served overseas in
Germany from 1953-1955 in the special forces to protect Russia from
coming in. After leaving the army, he again worked in construction
before becoming a plumber and pipefitter and worked for 35 years with
various companies. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and then
later in life, he enjoyed attending yard sales with his wife and owned
and operated a buy and sell in his garage in Wallace where he was a
keen « wheeler dealer »!
Hughie is survived by his step-sons, Shawn (Sheila) Arnold,
Wellington; Garnet (Trish) Arnold, Burlington, Ontario; Wade Arnold,
Halifax; Kim Arnold, Victoria, British Columbia; sisters, Ruth (Reg)
Delaney, Truro; Beverley (Trevor) Craig, Hilden; several nieces and
nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Edith
Emily (Anthony); brothers, Jackie Breen, David Breen, Donnie Breen,
Buddy Breen.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Donald Rowe, Dr. Matthew
Lowe and the wonderful staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Colchester
East Hants Health Centre.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. No visitation or funeral
service. If so desired, donations in Hughie’s memory to
