Acknowledging that she had lived a full life, with good health, strong faith, much happiness, challenges that were met with strength and courage and a generous dose of humour, the family of Johanna Maria VanderPoel announce her peaceful passing on June 19, 2019, at the age of 95, just 4 days shy of her 96th birthday.
Johanna was born in Leiderdorp, Holland and was the only surviving sibling of a family of 9 brothers and sisters. She immigrated to Canada in 1959. Predeceased by her husband Cornelius Vander Poel (2006). Survived by her daughters Catherine of Calgary, Laurine (Pierre Moreau) of Penetanguishene and Theresa (Jim McArthur) of Victoria Harbour. Forever in her heart is the love of her grandchildren; Andrew (Sharelle), Andre (Shannon), Alex (Emily), and Ellen (Justin). She is also survived by sister in laws Winy VanderPoel, Coby Streng and brother in law Harry deGroot all of Holland as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and those who considered her part of their family. Predeceased by infant grandson Benjamin (1986) and son-in-law David Wilson (2014).
In her very practical sense, she recently stated that she wished any donations made in her memory be made to the Georgian By General Hospital in the hopes that the donations will be directed to the Ambulatory Care in recognition of their kindness and dedication and in hopes of purchasing a new comfortable chair for those undergoing day treatments.
A visitation will be held at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Sunday, June 23. Funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Elmvale on Monday, June 24 at 10:30 am.
Interment Elmvale Cemetery.
