With heavy hearts, we the family of Ruth Elizabeth Jenkins announce her passing at Miner’s Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the age of 96. Mom was born in Sydney Mines to the late Winifred (Kelly) and Charles Halliday.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother who always put her family first and took great pride and joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom and Dad enjoyed their 77 years together, their Sunday drives and a meal out, often accompanied by their grandson Shane Pye.
Mom will be forever missed by her sons Laird (Brother) (Lillian), Charlie (Joan), daughters Kathy (David Julian Sr.), Tammy (Joey Pye), her 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, her sister Thelma Cook, sister-in-law Loretta Higdon and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Garfield, son Vaughan, sisters Pearl & Ruby, brothers Cecil and Laird, sisters-in-law, brothers-in- law, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Doug Kohlsmith, Karen Pero, the doctors and nurses of the Northside General and Cape Breton Regional Hospital and EHS for their kindness and excellent care of Mom.
A very special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Miner’s Memorial Manor for the tender care, dignity and respect shown to Mom during her stay at the manor. Words cannot express our gratitude for the comfort provided to Mom and her family by such caring and wonderful staff at the manor during her final days.
We would also like to thank friends Barbara MacNeil and Joy Stubbert for all your support.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home on Thursday June 13, 2019, from 2 – 3 pm followed by a service at 3pm with Father Oliver officiating. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
