Robert’s Obituary
The Man Who Sings
Robert Stuart Broughm
Broughm, Robert Stuart- 84, Lockeport Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2019 at Roseway Hospital. Born in Lockeport Nova Scotia March 18 1935, Bobby was the son of Ross Kelly Broughm (Port Mouton Nova Scotia) and Ruby Evangeline Burke (Lockeport Nova Scotia).
Bobby and his young wife moved to Toronto shortly after the beginning of their life together. Bobby wasn’t in love with living in Toronto and eventually the family returned to Lockeport in 1969 and remained. Bobby loved Lockeport and this south shore area with all his heart. He believed it to be the best little town in all the world. He became a stationary engineer at the Shelburne Naval Station until retiring due to poor health. He loved to play sports as a young man and became an avid golfer; he enjoyed hunting with his father and brothers. His small family meant everything to him. He will be held in our hearts for eternity. Bobby also believed and lived the instruction of scripture – to visit the widows and sick. He took these words to heart and went about doing God’s work, until his own health prevented his outings. But, more than anything else, he loved to sing – to sing for God’s glory. He became known as the man who sings.
Bobby is survived by Shirley (Wagner), his wife of 66 years, two daughters Mary (David) and Susan (Mike), two grandchildren Ryan and Blair Herbert; brother Richard (Helen); sisters in law Violet, Pat, as well as many nieces and nephews living across Canada .
He was predeceased by infant brother Arnold, sister Evangeline, brothers Earl, Harley and Ross, and sisters-in-law Milly and Beulah.
Cremation has taken place under the care of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. As per request there will be no visitation. A Celebration Song Service for The Man Who Sings will be held on Thursday, July 4 at 6:00 pm for family and close friends at Hope Weslyan Church, 1531 Lake Rd. Shelburne, with Pastor Joanne Ozon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Gideon Bible Association, or to a charity of choice. Donation cards for Gideon Bible Association will be available at the church.
