Robert Sidney Shaw
1942-2019
God saw him getting tired and a cure was not to be, He
wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered « Come with
me ».
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Robert
Sidney Shaw. On June 28, 2019, after a four-year battle with pulmonary
fibrosis, Bob, with his loving wife by his side, succumbed to his
illness at Hospice House in Fredericton, NB. Bob was a devoted son,
brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, community volunteer,
and honoured soldier.
Bob was born in North Sydney, NS, July 24, 1942. He joined
the Royal Canadian Engineers at 19 and dedicated over 31 years to
serving his country. Bob earned with distinction the Member of the
Order of Military Merit and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver
Jubilee and CD with Clasp medals. Throughout his lifetime Bob
volunteered as a hockey and basketball coach, was a leader with Scouts
Canada for over 25 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus and held
several volunteer positions within the church.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Verna Marie
(Murdoch) Shaw; his daughter, Angela Davies (Ross) of St. Andrews, PE;
sons, Bobby (Tammy) of Tsawwassen, BC, and Jamie (Jennifer) of Maple
Ridge, BC. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Robert Davies
(Leah Kovatch) of Lethbridge, AB, Patrick Davies of CFB Cold Lake, AB,
Samantha Shaw of Maple Ridge, BC, Jordyn and Georgia-Rain Shaw of
Tsawwassen, BC. Bob is also survived by his brother, Blaine (Terry) of
Nanton, AB; brothers-in-law, Darrell Murdoch (Eleanor) and Ronald
Murdoch; sister-in-law, Elaine Murdoch. Bob was predeceased by his
parents, Robert and Ellen (Hurley) Shaw; his mother-in-law, Ruby
(Donahue) Murdoch; sister, Wendy-Lynn Stevens; sisters-in-law, Nancy
and Roberta Murdoch; brother-in-law, Robert Murdoch.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 3, from 7 pm to
9 pm at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint
Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at 12:05
pm followed by a reception in the Monsignor Boyd Family Centre. For
those who wish, donations may be made to Hospice House Fredericton or
the charity of one’s choice.
