Maureen Theresa Brogan
Sydney Mines
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Maureen Brogan, 74, our beautiful Mom, Nanny, Grandma, Aunt, sister and friend. Mom passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney Mines on April 14, 1945, Mom was the daughter of the late Edward and Maria (MacKinnon) Dalton.
Family was everything to Mom, and she was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom loved to sing, and she loved a good game of cards with her friends at Parkview Apartments.
She is survived by her sons Michael (Cathy) and Gerard (Wanda), her only daughter and best friend Debbie (Troy); grandchildren Miranda (Kevin), Marlene (Steven), Amanda, Victoria, Emily and Emma, and her great-grandchildren Leland and Blake, the joys of her life.
Also left to mourn are her sisters Mae (Emmet) O’Connor, Margaret LeBlanc, Doris Brown, Linda (Pat) MacKinnon, her brother Jack, many nieces and nephews, and her special friend Patsy MacAulay.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband Michael in 2002, sisters Kathleen and Rose Marie, and her brother Edward.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff of 4th and 5th floors of the Northside General Hospital for their care and compassion, the doctors and nurses of Palliative Care, the doctors and staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Center, and Dr. Kohlsmith for his excellent care of Mom over the years.
Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to the Lung Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Visitation for Maureen Brogan will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home. A prayer service will take place in the funeral home at 3: 45p.m., with Deacon Greg Murphy officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
