Obituary of Lucia Maria Breetvelt (nee Wisse)
Lucy W. Breetvelt passed away peacefully on June 27, 2019 with her family by her side, in Shawville, QC.
Lucy was born on February 28, 1937, in Zierikzee, Province of Zealand to Anthonij Wisse and Catharina van der Westen. Len and Lucy moved to Canada in 1957 and married in Elliot Lake, Ontario on December 21st of the same year. They have three children: Gerry, Glenn and Wendy, and lived in several towns across Ontario and Quebec before settling in Val-d’Or, Quebec, in 1974. There, Lucy enjoyed summers on the water at the cottage, entertaining, travelling, playing tennis, skiing, sailing and reading. After many wonderful years in Val-d’Or, Len and Lucy moved to Shawville, QC in 2004 to be close to their daughter and youngest grandchildren.
Lucy was a devoted, loving mother and wife. Those who knew her, knew her grace, beauty, strength, kindness and generosity. Lucy is survived by her loving husband, Len; sister and brother, Reit and Jan(Rejien); two sons, one daughter and their spouses, Gerry, Glenn(Jasmine), Wendy(Todd); six grandchildren and their spouses, Jessa(Jean-Christophe), Jack, Audrey, Amanda, Bria (Darcy), Cris; two great-grandchildren, Mason, and his baby brother on the way; and many caring friends.
Special thank you to Dr. Keith MacLellan, Dr. Ruth Vander Stelt and staff at the Shawville Hospital.
A private memorial service will be held at Lucy and Len’s home.
