Kathleen « Kay »‘s Obituary
Patriquin, Kathleen « Kay » Grace – 80, Greenville Station, passed away suddenly at home Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of the late Howard Austin and Gladys « Plum » (Hayman) Patriquin. She began work at an early age cooking in the mill camps for Loran Patriquin. As she raised her young family, she traveled extensively during the summer months with her husband, Hilton, throughout Nova Scotia as he worked with the Department of Highways. She later worked for the Wentworth Motel, the P & K Diner, operated the restaurant for a few years, then went on to be employed by Gordon’s Greenhouses, Ski Wentworth, the Lady Wentworth Restaurant and Oxford Frozen Foods. Her world revolved around home and her family, with open arms awaiting the much-loved cuddles and squeezes with her grandchildren. She was blessed with a wonderful sense of humour, perseverance, and great determination. In past years, she was a member of the Wentworth Rifle Club winning many awards for her marksmanship. She loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. She had a great love for all animals, especially dogs and the hummingbirds. Her favorite pastimes included being the “family photographer”, family get together’s, knitting and playing cards. A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by daughter, Marilyn (Dino) Bruce, Truro; sons, Dale (Darlene), Wentworth; Winston (Susan) and Doug (Ann), both of Oxford; grandchildren, Angie (Geoff), Mandie (Evan), Treva (Jeremy), Brittany (Joe), Lynzee (Ryan), Tim, Chris (Megan), Brandon (Leah), Chad, Drake, Jenica and Nadia; great-grandchildren, Emma, Matthew, Ryan, Gracen, Avery, Brooke, Kasey, Logan, Davina, Keegan, Easton, Everly, Cohen and step great-grandchildren, Neveah and Hunter; and furry companion, Tucker; sisters, Ruby (Eric), Linda (Jack), Carolyn (Garry), Beverly (Bryon); brothers, Wesley (Avis) Austin, Lloyd (Lillian), Alvin (Ellie), Donnie (Carla) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Hilton, and grandson, Daniel. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 21 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, Oxford (902-447-2930). Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22 in Wentworth United Church.
