Joseph Howard Delorey
1958-2019
It is with very
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Howard Delorey,
age 60, of Monastery, N.S., a wonderful husband, father,
brother, uncle, son-in-law and Papa. With his family by his side, he
lost his courageous year-long battle with cancer on June 26th, 2019 in
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Joe’s
greatest joy in life was his family. He was blessed with two sons,
Edward and Justin, along with his beautiful daughter-in-law Sarah, and
the precious gift that was his grandson, Jack- Papa’s pride
and joy. He adored his boys and was their #1 fan. When he
wasn’t coaching their many sports games, he was watching
from the sidelines with pride. From an early age, his sons adopted
their fathers love of four wheeling, and had many hours of enjoyment
out on the trails. This love was further passed down to his Grandson,
who went for many special drives with his
Papa.
Joe spent his
time and talent fixing four wheelers with his sidekick Paul. There
weren’t too many they couldn’t fix! Joe was a hard worker,
he enjoyed working on his land, grooming and planting many flowers on
their beautiful property which he cared so deeply for, yet most of his
time was spent with his best friend and love of his life
« Dorothy », side by side always, in whatever they did,
especially their bingo nights, trips down south, walks on the beach,
spending time with family and friends, and being the best host for
Connolly Family Reunions. You can hear
Joe saying 30 for 60 with the biggest grin,
playing countless games of auction with his mother and father in law,
Margaret & Kenneth, whom he adored and loved, and was always
there to lend them a helping hand. He will be truly missed by them and
many. He was a passionate crib player, who would partner up with
Dorothy and get great delight out of beating their rivals, Phillip
& Mary.
Joe was a bus
driver for the Strait Regional School Board for 38 years. He took
great pride in his job, and grew an attachment to all of the students
he met along the way. His fellow bus drivers became his closest
friends. At the bus garage he had many laughs, and his mischievous
nature shone through. Joe was a member of St. Peter’s
Parish, the Tracadie Volunteer Fire Department, and Linwood
Community Centre. He gave many hours of his time to the Beavers
& Cubs, and the Tracadie Minor Softball League. He was
honoured to receive the award for volunteer of the year, Antigonish
county.
