It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend, John Genik on June 11, 2019 at the age of 81 years.
John was born in Dauphin, MB on July 7, 1937 to Annie and Steve Genik. John began his life in Dauphin where he met his wife Phyllis and had two children. Though Dauphin was a home base for John, his life took him to many far away places all over the world. His dreams kept him busy learning new things, running businesses, and tavelling and experiencing many different cultures and ways of life. He was a very bright man who never let humble beginnings stop him from being a part of creating plans and learning complex business and market functions. He loved watching small things move through development into the impossible. For him the adventure and the pursuit was the goal. He was involved in plumbing, construction, buy and sell business, and he finished in the world of venture capital in mining exploration and development. He was remembered for saying « I have had a good life, and I never had to live the same day twice. »
In his later years, his greatest passion and joy was his granddaughter Ashley. He was an amazing grandfather and partner in trips to the lake, in teaching her to fish, and in being wherever she was in her regular visits, and daily phone conversations. She was his « BEA » and he took great interest in her life at school, dance, and travel.
He worked very hard and never complained about his health or circumstance. He was very grateful for the countless hours he spent with is son Patrick fishing and hunting and being in the great outdoors. Thorough his most difficult times he still went for coffee and treasured moments with those he knew over the years. In his final months he was truly blessed by the caring and kind nurses and caregivers of St. Paul’s home. As time grew short he was so grateful for a comforting hand and visits from family.
The measure of a life lived well is the presence of love. John was loved and will be remembered with the humor of his adventures, the collection of small treasures, and his strong will. He always lived life on his terms. John was blessed with amazing and enduring friendships, most thankfully Don in Winnipeg.
John is sadly missed an survived by son Patrick Genik, daughter Lisa Szutiak, son-in-law Greg Szutiak, and granddaughter Ashley Szutiak. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis Genik in 2018. John drew closer in his faith and he passed peacefully into the hands of His Lord and Comforter.
There will be a church service at the Dauphin First United Church, followed by a celebration of life lunch, on Friday, July 5, 2019 beginning at 11:am with Ilene Dowd officiating . All are welcome to attend the celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers please honor him by making a donation to the Dauphin First United Church.
In mind a constant thought, and in heart a deep felt sorrow. May heaven be the greatest adventure, and the home of rest, peace, and the joy of the presence of God. Love you always dad and grandpa.
