It is with great sadness that the family of Ina Lillian Gibbs (nee Bates) wish to announce her peaceful passing at home on Saturday, June 15, 2019 with her family by her side. She was born on October 18, 1924 to the late Carlyle and Blanche (Atkinson) Bates in East Stewiacke, Colchester County. She had finished school and was employed at Brookfield Creamery when she met her future husband, F. Bertram Gibbs. They were married for 71 years, during which they raised five children, Lloyd (Anna), Robert (Sheila), Francis (Maureen), Shauna and Jane (Eric). Their family grew to include many grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years. Each and every member of her family were special to her and she always tried to remember all of their birthdays, anniversaries and special events. Mom was a devoted wife and mother who instilled kindness and patience in all those around her. She was a competitor, demanding good behavior, good sportsmanship and fair play not only in sports (especially crib), but in life in general. She was a great fan of the sports teams from Toronto – the Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs and the Raptors. Her spirit was elevated when the Raptors recently won the NBA Championship. The greatest lesson she lived by was to love her family unconditionally. She loved the Lord and was a devoted member of St. James Presbyterian Church. Her faith helped her through many difficult times, but we know that she is now at home with the Lord. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters and her grandson, Jamie. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Bruce Phillips and Heather, VON (nursing and homecare), Palliative Care (Dr. Henderson and Lisa Weatherbee), Bible Hill MacQuarries (pharmacy staff) and the many friends and family members who have dropped off food and cards over the past few days. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19 from 6–8 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. There will be a private family service at home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colchester VON, Colchester Palliative Care or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
