Obituary of Harold Wycliffe Harnum
Harnum, Harold Wycliffe – Gently and peacefully passed away from the arms of his family to the loving arms of Jesus, on June 10th, 2019, in his 94th year. Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Esther, and cherished by his children Steve (Elizabeth), Cheryl (Herm), Pam (Zeke) and adored by grandchildren Ian, Geoff, Ryan, Heidi, Andrew, Heather, Rachel and Laura, and 10 great grandchildren. Harold is the youngest of two siblings and is predeceased by his sister Gwen Collins. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was born in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland on October 30th, 1925 to Selby and Daisy Harnum. At 2 years of age, his mother died and he was raised by his grandparents, William and Emma Harnum. He earned his union card at the paper mill in Bishop’s Falls at the age of 12, and then journeyed on his own to St. Catharines, Ontario at the age of 14 to start his career as a carpenter. He met Esther at age 22 and married her on March 14, 1953. They shared a love that few have ever known and spent 55 happy years together. Harold grew into a master craftsman in finish carpentry and restoration, attestable by much of the work seen in Niagara-on-the-Lake, at Willow Bank Estate, and many homes along Linwell road. Harold accepted the Lord into his heart in 1992. His life has been characterized by the deep love he held for his family and friends. He is remembered by his family for his determination, laughter, and protection of those he loved. He was a quiet man but his tender heart spoke volumes to those he loved. The family wishes to express their most heartfelt appreciation to the nursing staff at Niagara Health on 3B for your dedication and care of Harold. We rejoice that there is a celebration in heaven as he is now reunited with his beloved Esther. Following a private family interment, there will be a celebration of Harold’s life at Mountain Park Church in Niagara Falls on Thursday June 13th at 11:30am.
