Harold Ross Parks Monday May 20th 2019

Parks, Harold Ross – 92, Murray Siding. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold ‘Ross’ Parks on Monday, May 20, 2019 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre surrounded by his loving family. Ross was born in Murray Siding and was a son of late Harold and Myra (Cann) Parks. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Henderson; his brother, George Parks; his sister-in-law, Dianne Bartlett and his brother-in-law, John Bartlett. Ross enjoyed socializing where he got to share his sense of humour over a stiff drink of rum, camping with his friends where he could always be found embroiled in a fierce game of cards, going to his cottage at Hart Lake or tending to his precious garden and admired property. Above all else, Ross cherished and loved his family. Grampie was most proud of his grandchildren’s accomplishments and had a strong passion to share the knowledge that he had acquired throughout his life. Ross was a community person. He was most proud of the Salmon River Fire Brigade where he was their first chief and a charter member. He was an inductee in the Nova Scotia Forestry Hall of Fame and an active member of the Masonic Lodge #43, the Central Shriner’s Club, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26, along with the Nova Scotia Forest Products Association, the Nova Scotia Christmas Tree Association and Nova Scotia Wild Blueberry Association. At the age of thirteen years, Ross left school and went to work for his father in the lumber yard at Pictou Ship Building. He later joined the army and when he was discharged, he attended the Maritime Forest Ranger School, graduating in 1947. His first job was with the Hollingsworth & Whitney Company then with the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forests. He finished his career with Scott Paper, where he worked for over 31 years. During his retirement years, he especially enjoyed working on his Christmas tree farm in Greenfield and tending to his blueberry fields in Murray Siding. Ross is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean (Bartlett). He was truly the best dad to his children, Randy (Marie) of Fredericton, Joanne (Tracy) Toole of North River and Stephen (Sonya) of Greenfield. Ross adored his grandchildren, Randi, Adam (Jena), Bradley, Katie, Emma, and Charles and his new great-granddaughter, Andi Parks. Ross is also survived by his brother-in-law, Donald Bartlett. A special thank you to the nurses and physicians who treated Dad with dignity and respect while in the hospital and to the VON who made coming home possible. He so appreciated your work and support. Cremation has taken place. Honouring Ross’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life including a Masonic, a Shriners’ and a Firefighter’s Tribute Service will be on Sunday, May 26th, 2019 at 3:30pm in the First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro. Reception to follow at the Salmon River Fire Hall. Private family burial at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the Colchester East Hants Health Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro. Live webcasting of the service will begin at 3:28p.m. (Atlantic Time) and is available along with online condolences by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
