It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Jackson of Rosetown, SK on Monday, June 10, 2019 age the age of 87 years.
Betty is survived by her sons Rick (Heather) and Brian (Jean-Anne) and five grandchildren: Chase, Drew, Kendra (Tom Kelly), James and Katherine. Betty is also survived by her brother Herbert and many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband Wilfred (Bill), son Murray, parents Peter and Mary Hoffman, parents-in-law Robert and Margaret Jackson, sisters Lorene Ivanco and Zelma Malaguerra, brothers John Hoffman and a baby brother, sister-in-law Ida Winnifred Jones, brothers-in-law John Ivanco and Elmo Malaguerra, nephew Kenneth Hoffman, Geofrrey Hoffman and William Ivanco and nieces Glenda Weber and Sylverta Normandeau.
Betty was born on January 3, 1932 on the farm, near Lucky Lake, SK. She was the fifth child born to Peter and Mary Hoffman. When she was young, the family moved into Lucky Lake where she attended Lucky Lake School. As a teenager, she worked at the local Chinese restaurant and from 1948 to 1952, Betty worked for The Weekly Broadcast in partnership with W.L. Snowden.
On July 17, 1953, Betty married Wilfred (Bill) Jackson and moved to Rosetown area. When Bill started working as the United Grainer Growers elevator agent, they moved to Anglia where they raised their three boys: Rick (born March 14, 1955), Murray (born November 30, 1957) and Brian (born December 23, 1959).
In 1975, Bill and Betty were transferred to Rose Valley, they remained in Rose Valley for about nine years. During this time, Betty was very involved with the church, she also learned how to make moccasins and started doing bead work. Bill’s final transfer took the couple to Kinistino. Betty’s crafting expanded to include crocheting doilies, and making mukluks and slippers.
When Bill retired in January 1988, Bill and Betty left the snowy north and returned to Rosetown on a spring-like day. They bought their house on Markland where Betty lived until her passing. Betty was very active in Rosetown, she enjoyed her ladies’ coffee group, meeting in the mornings on weekdays, Saturday afternoons and Sunday for lunch. She was a member of the Royal Purple, loved music and sang with the Senior’s Choir and with the Odds and Ends.
Betty was a skilled homemaker; she was a handy tailor and patched many pairs of jeans. Betty grew bountiful gardens, from which she made the best dill pickles. She will also be remembered for her dainties and buns. Betty’s love of family and warm smile will be remembered by all.
A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jo-Ann Hills officiating. Memorial Donations may be made to the Alex Ositis Foundation, P.O. Box 1251, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0.
